Fabric Accessory Workshop : Ribbons + Roses

Last weekend's Valentine's Day themed workshop "Ribbons & Roses" was such a blast! Although the weather had its ups and downs, thanks to everyone who braved the wind and flurries to attend!

Working with ribbon, felt and satin strips, students created roses two different ways: Folded oragami-style, suitable for ribbon, and "rolled roses", made by spiraling strips of fabric around a central knot. Both methods are very easy learn, as long as the height of the rose doesn't get too tall!

Since there was extra time, I did a short demonstration for the 2 new students on how to attach hardware to their flower creations, such as clips, pins, ring forms and headbands.

Great job everyone! See you next time!

Crystal City Couture

Maybe I'm a little late on the DC fashion scene, but did you know there was a free fashion show every year in Crystal City, VA? When Sarah Gingold (owner, Think Outside the Store) told me about Crystal City Couture, I had no idea what to expect. Turns out, its a 3-4 day event, trunk sale, fashion show, henna party, jewelry show all wrapped into one.

Vintage jewels from Thembe Fashions ~ I scored a very cool 70's shirt and a hammered wire necklace!

Amazing handmade gemstone items, water buffalo horn cuffs and sparkle bangles from Nakia Fisher at Cynirje.

See you next year!
